just to add something useful, if you were curious about how a building made out of stone burns, this is what the attic is made of: (images copied from the internets)
this is a photo I took about 12 years ago:
this is from CNN :

Can’t really tell about the condition of the stained glass with it dark outside, the photos tomorrow morning will make things clearer. Still, seems like it could have been vastly worse. Seems like the Paris firefighters did their job as well as could be expected given the difficult circumstances.

i bet the stained glass is a puddle on the floor. from what i’ve heard, it doesn;t like heat at all so with the fire and all forces from things collapsing , I bet its gone.

Yeah, I saw a report that the north rose window is intact, but between the heat, collapsing structures, and even water cannon sprays, it’s easy to imagine a lot of it may not have made it.

Behind all that decorative plaster is lathe. At lest the flat walls usually. We did some renovation work at “The old Cathedral” in downtown St. Louis next to the arch. The attic is just like the photo you put up. First cathedral west of Mississippi River
Last night in Stlouis there was strong winds that blew part of the roof off and water got inside and on the hardwood floors.

This looks like the roof structure of my four story built in 1903 high school. All they needed was a 4" set of piping with sprinkler heads connected to standpipes to knock that fire down. Had they and all we would have heard about was water damage.
That wood is tinder dry and all it takes is a idiot contractor or lightning str ike to lose the structure. I hope the other cathedrals of Europe take notice. Or perhaps the Germans probably have.

Stained glass, at least here, is typically held together with solder. I’m sure you can guess how that would go.

Reports this morning say that all three of the huge rose windows have survived:

Here is some video of the firefighting. It looks like they prioritized keeping the artifacts and stained glass cool.
